Mise-en-scène in TRON: Legacy

"Tron: Legacy" released in 2010, a sequel made 28 years after the original film “TRON” (1982), is an action, sci-fi film which follows the son of a video game designer who goes looking for his father after missing for almost 20 years and ends up inside a digital world that his father created. He meets his father's corrupted creation and a unique ally who was born inside the digital world.
TRON: Legacy uses mise-en-scene to provide meaning and understanding of what is happening in the scene. For example the film uses lighting, setting and atmosphere elements to give the focus of something, like a character, an expression of their personality.
Like how in the real world the white balance is more warm

And once he moves into the real world everything is more cool and bright.
This is a powerful element of mise-en-scene.

This is where the props and costume come into play.
After being inside the digital world for 2 minutes Sam is captured by guards in black gear and red lights, which gives off a bad guy vibe.
Therefore the viewer now knows that red is not a good colour by using an element of mise-en-scene
Having weapon-like props gives them more dominance over Sam.

In this shot the director uses mise-en-scene by having the lightinglow and the character is isolated and seems calm because he is enclosed by white clothes, white lights and white furniture.

The white lights and colour shows the character is good compared to other characters we’ve seen who have the bad guy feeling.
This character wears a black mask and threads which have orange lights coming off of them, not red like the others.
this makes it a mystery as to who this guy is.

Here the characters are truly differed by color, costume, prop and character personality.

TRON: Legacy

A character’s actions and expressions tells a lot about themselves sometimes. When Zeus is introduced he seems ecstatic and friendly.

TRON: Legacy (2010)
Whenever Jeff Bridges is on screen the scene has him of a dominant feel to it because he is the creator and master of the digital world.
Like using the atmosphere where its cloudy with lightning weather FX through the use of mise-en-scene.

TRON: Legacy (2010)
TRON: Legacy uses mise-en-scene to add much meaning to the movie. Lighting and sets are used to create a gloomy feel. Makeup was used to tell difference between programs and users. Costumes were used to differ between good and bad characters based on their attire colour. TRON: Legacy is a great example of using mise-en-scene to saturate meaning.
